The assimilation of the Gorkhas in the larger Assamese society is as old as nearly two hundred years ago. Common borders, shared history, language and culture among many factors were instrumental in the migration history. The Gorkha recruitment in Indian army from 1815 was another turning point in Assam military history especially during the wake of the Burmese invasion.
