Democracy, Multiculturalism, and Security: Indo-Canadian Relations under the Sha

India and Canada, despite their geographical remoteness, share commonalities in their colonial histories, social diversity, democratic governance, and commitment to multiculturalism. Both nations boast a rich array of cultural traditions and have steadfastly embraced multiculturalism as a core element of their national identities. Both countries also possess parliamentary democratic systems and semi-federal frameworks designed to accommodate socioeconomic diversity, minority groups, and substantial diaspora communities.

However, the two nations have occasionally faced tensions in their bilateral relations, often influenced by the Khalistan issue. While the movement has considerably weakened in India, pockets of support persist within the global Sikh diaspora, particularly in Canada, which is home to a significant Sikh population.

This volume explores various issues and challenges, including history, politics, diplomacy, the current diplomatic row, terrorism, international security, trade, economics, scientific and technological collaboration, multiculturalism, diaspora, and literary and cultural ties between the two nations. The volume also seeks to answer how the two democracies can progress further through dialogue and mutual trust. Regular high-level talks, Track-II diplomacy, economic cooperation, and joint ventures could improve relations between the countries. Key strategies include addressing misunderstandings, encouraging informal dialogues, strengthening trade and investment, and fostering mutual dependencies through trade agreements and business exchanges
